Prefabricated service pit
A prefabricated service pit lets you work underneath a vehicle without lifting it: cars, vans, HGVs, buses, agricultural or rail vehicles. Equindus supplies steel pits from the Czech manufacturer INGTop Metal, delivered fully equipped and ready to install, for garages, HGV workshops, MOT and inspection centres and vehicle fleets in Luxembourg, Belgium and France.
Each pit is built to the dimensions of your workshop. It carries the CE marking and complies with the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
Which pit for which vehicles?
The model is chosen first on the load it must carry and the length of the vehicles you maintain.
Example installation: a 23.5 m HGV pit fitted with two 14.5 t jacks, used-oil collection and a motorised greasing station.
Dimensions and drawings of a garage pit
| Width | 1.3 m (cars) · 1.4 to 1.5 m (HGVs) |
|---|---|
| Depth | 1.5 m |
| Length | 7 to 40 m, up to 200 m (rail) |
| Load | 10 to 90 t depending on the model |
| Construction | S235 steel, 3 to 4 mm sheet, 20 mm insulation, RAL 7035 interior |

For each project, the manufacturer supplies the pit drawings, the technical file and the connection diagram (electricity, compressed air, ventilation). Your civil engineering contractor uses these drawings to prepare the excavation and the slab.
Standard equipment and options

Standard
- swivelling lamps and 230 V sockets;
- compressed-air distribution (2 to 8 connection points);
- fresh-air supply for ventilation;
- access stairs, ladder and grating;
- sludge pump and oil collection channel on HGV models.

Options
- safety curtain or motorised cover: an HGV can drive over at 5 km/h, 3 or 5 t per wheel;
- pit jacks;
- tool recesses, lockable boxes, greasing station;
- built-in diagnostic equipment: brake tester, play detector plates.
Service pit or vehicle lift?
A pit is the better choice where a lift reaches its limits:
Lead times and installation
Allow around 6 weeks between project approval and handover of the pit (38 days in the standard case):
The pit arrives prefabricated and is lowered by crane into the excavation prepared by the civil engineering contractor. It is inspected before the concrete is poured, a step that is a condition of the warranty.
